FR - Les Vignes de l'Arque is a 7-generation, and even more, estate that has built up an exceptional vineyard over the years, with vineyards not only in Baron, but also in Montaren, Foissac - the birthplace of the vines, La Baume...
A land rich in character, authentic, rhyming with ‘diversity, between the garrigue and the olive groves... In all, 4 blocks of vines representing more than 60 hectares, for the right alliance between grape varieties and terroir’.
23 wines, each with its own personality. 23 wines with names that will take you on a journey, from AOP Duché d'Uzès to IGP Cévennes, from red to rosé, from white to sparkling... Wines that have been adapted to the changing tastes of consumers, wanting lighter wines. ‘We've been farming organically since 2012, a method of culture that is now bearing fruit: sowing clover and faba beans in alternate rows. The grass cover helps to keep the soil in good condition and the organic life of our soils. In 2024, we planted 300 metres of local melliferous hedges, which will provide beneficial shade for the vines at sunset. We are recreating a wood of lime trees, oaks, Aleppo pines and cedars in the heart of our vineyards to encourage biodiversity. All this care in the vineyard is complemented by meticulous work in the cellar, enabling us to offer certain cuvées without sulphites'.
Wine tasting
Founded in 1994, Baron's bright cellar is full of tannic aromas and invites you to taste the wines at their best.
Cévennes PGI wines, like the fresh, fruity Mûrier blanc or the subtle pink Petit gris. These are ‘pure products from the Cévennes, combining simplicity and joviality, an ideal pairing for a meal with friends’: There's the fruity Viognier, deliberately ‘atypical’, the sober Boissières, from ‘a parcel of old Merlot rooted in sandy soil’, the mysterious Terroir inconnu, voluptuous and promising... a sulphite-free wine made from black Grenache grapes, the Alexia muscat petit grain and sauvignon, frank and tasty, or the romantic Amélie, a white wine matured in fragrant French oak barrels... Feminine touches reminiscent of the members of the family, Les Vignes de l'Arque is a heritage that's worth sharing.
As for the AOP duché d'Uzès, these are Sur les chemins de Rome, a name that recalls an old winegrowing estate near Baron, whites, rosés or reds with designer, flowery labels, all from shady hillsides between Anduze and the Pont du Gard, a ‘Rhone-style blend of Syrah and Grenache for the reds and rosés, and Grenache Blanc, Roussanne and Viognier for the whites’.
Le Chant des Baumes, an historical reference to the eponymous oppidum, for wines made on hillsides that still recall vines grown in the Iron Age, located ‘just below the wood, a large hunting reserve... an isolated landscape, preserved by old vines... on sloping land’...
Les confidentiels, pure reds from the Labaume hillsides, ‘wild and mature’ reds, Viognier, Grenache and Roussanne whites and distinguished rosés.
To finish on a festive note, let's talk about Rouge de plaisir and Saveurs d'automne, a Cévennes with woody notes, both perfect to liven up your family tables, not to mention the bubbles made using the Champagne method, a sparkling Blanc de blanc, fresh and dynamic, Léa, or the delicate and poetic Pétale de Rose, with its soft peach hue...
At Les Vignes de l'Arque, the wine is also matured in Limoges Biopythos ceramic jars. It's a year-long experiment, producing a promising 500 bottles, a new way of looking at wine, a new way of thinking about blending grape varieties together, a new way of separating tastes...
Did you know that Les Vignes de l'Arque wines travel within France and are exported abroad? Not only in Europe, England, Switzerland, but in Japan, Vietnam, Canada and the United States too.
A little extra: A good selection of local produce is on offer at the cellar: Honey, jams, spreads, almonds from local producers and home-made fruit juices from the Les Vignes de l'Arque.
Thanks to the Fabre family, from Vignes de l'Arque, for their collaboration on this article.
