La Maison du Puisatier, holiday house in Uzès

FR - In the ‘quartier des Bourgades’  of Uzès, stands a holiday home with a distinctly Occitan charm that you.

A tourist stopover as much as a cultural one, Maison du Puisatier, ideally located in the heart of pedestrian streets, has been tastefully renovated, ‘its original cachet blending the authenticity of the stonework, beams and tiled floors with contemporary comfort in an elegant and relaxed spirit’.

Adding to this a confidential garden, perfect alcove for a secret swimming pool, where you can swim to the sound of cicadas...

LET'S CHAT

Hello Anne-Caroline, delighted to welcome you to the Tourism section of the blog.

You are the owner of this beautiful 17th-century house in the Bourgades district, which you have tastefully restored to welcome your guests.

Can you tell us more about your project?

My husband and I discovered this beautiful house in 2020. Abandoned for over 30 years, it was just begging to be brought back to life.

Despite other visits, it was love at first sight for this perfect place to embark on the wonderful project of building a holiday home.

What were the challenges of renovating it and adapting it to its new life, given that it's a historic building?

Notwithstanding a number of renovations carried out by the previous owners, what was to become La Maison du Puisatier needed a serious facelift. From the roof, which had to be completely redone, to the restoration and interior decoration, the challenge had to be met.

A year's work was therefore necessary. Since its opening, La Maison du Puisatier has been finding its feet and meeting its customers month after month.

As soon as you enter, you find reminders of Pagnol's literature, starting with the name of the house, which refers to the street next to it, Jacques le Puisatier, but also to the film directed by the French writer himself in 1940, whose characters give their names to your rooms: Marius, Panisse, Amoretti.

The decor, which is so very Mediterranean, sober and cosy, gives an hint of this heritage too...

I wanted to preserve the soul and authenticity of the building and reveal its true potential. I wanted to rethink the spaces, reveal the beautiful architectural volumes, redo the bathrooms or even create a new one, and bring a bit of the Mediterranean into a classic French southern house which had to be modern and functional.

The result is a somewhat country style, combining refinement and simplicity, with antique and restored furniture, paintings, small touches of decoration and design... Everything is there to make holidaymakers feel at ease, ‘just like at home’.

You offer solar creations to take away, products that you imagine, design and have made by a local craftsman...

L'Atelier du Puisatier gives me the opportunity to add my own creative touch to the decor, starting with wicker cicadas.

As the house is entering its first tourist season, I'm taking advantage of this time to fine-tune and establish my offer. I will think about whether I should continue in this direction, with other creations to come and other ideas to develop, depending on the feedback from my first customers...

Many thanks to Anne-Caroline for her contribution to this article and the visuals.
